Chicken & Egg Films seeks a Communications Intern to help the organization express its voice and communicate effectively to its community of filmmakers, partners, supporters, and beyond. The intern will be supervised by the Communications Manager. 

Chicken & Egg Films is a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that champions women and gender-expansive documentary filmmakers around the globe with funding, mentorship, and access so they can tell stories that ignite change. We see a world transformed because the stories and storytellers we uplift inspire empathy, learning, and action. 

Please note: Chicken & Egg Films is not a production company. This is a dedicated communications role that is not structured as a pathway into documentary program work.
 

Responsibilities

Writing and Creative Support

  • Draft and post social media content
  • Support press release drafting 
  • Create social media assets via Canva and/or Adobe Suite
  • Proofread and fact-check digital and print materials

Research

  • Track documentary film news across social media, major outlets, etc. 
  • Monitor Google alerts and review festival lineups
  • Contribute ideas to the editorial calendar

Administration

  • Support project management in Asana and Google Drive
  • Coordinate filmmaker information intake process
  • Build out newsletter in Emma email marketing platform
  • Build and update web pages

This position may be asked to provide other administrative support in service of the Communications department.

Minimum Requirements

  • Interest in and experience with nonprofit social change communications
  • Strong copywriting skills
  • Social media savvy 
  • Proven ability to work proactively and independently and meet deadlines
  • Approach to work that is organized, detail-oriented, and demonstrates follow-through
  • Proficiency in basic technology and office productivity tools (Google Suite, Asana, etc.)

Bonuses

  • Knowledge of cinema and passion for the documentary form
  • Basic graphic design skills; familiarity with Canva and Adobe Suite

What Else You Should Know 

Internship Period: June-August 2026, with the possibility of extension.

Time Commitment: Approximately 16-24 hours per week. The exact number of hours per week will vary and a flexible schedule is possible.  

Compensation: The compensation for this role is $18 per hour. This is a non-exempt position that is eligible for overtime. This temporary position is not eligible for benefits except those mandated by law.

Deadline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. First round interviews will take place in late April/early May.

Location and Hybrid Work Policy: This position is based in NYC. We have a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of two days a week in our Brooklyn office for full-time staff.
